A Calling, Not a Title

Membership in the Order is a vocation extended by invitation — to faithful Catholics who wish to serve the Church in the Holy Land.

Discerning the Vocation

Who is called?

The Order welcomes practicing Catholic men and women of good moral standing, devoted to their faith and to the Church, who are willing to commit themselves to prayer and to the support of the Holy Land. Membership is not sought as an honour, but accepted as a responsibility.

The Path to Investiture

Five steps of reception

01

Discernment & inquiry

A prospective member, already living a devout Catholic life, makes their interest known through a current member or directly to EOHSJ-Toronto.

02

Sponsorship

An existing knight or dame sponsors the candidate, attesting to their faith, character, and good standing in the Church.

03

Petition & approval

The candidate's pastor and the Lieutenant review the petition, which is then forwarded to the Grand Magisterium in Rome.

04

Formation

A period of preparation in the history, spirituality, and obligations of the Order precedes reception.

05

Vigil & Investiture

In a solemn liturgy, the candidate is invested with the mantle and insignia of the Order by the Grand Prior.
